Day 01:Saigon Arrival

Welcome to Saigon, the financial center of Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City). Arrive in the late morning and take a tour of Saigon’s busy streets on the way to your hotel. Enjoy the remainder of the day at your leisure to get over your jet lag and independently explore the city.

Day 02:Saigon City Tour

Spend the entire day exploring Saigon’s many attractions. Visit Saigon’s Chinatown first, then the FITO Museum to learn about traditional Vietnamese medicine, and Ben Thanh Market to peruse the incredible selection of goods. After stopping for lunch, continue your city tour by touring the former Presidential Palace and the War Remnants Museum. You end the day by visiting the Old Post Office and Notre Dame Cathedral as you continue your exploration of the city’s French colonial architecture.

Day 03:Saigon – Mekong Delta – Saigon

You take a day trip to the Mekong River Delta today to explore its vibrant culture and lush fluvial environment. At your hotel, your driver and guide will be waiting to transport you to Cai Be. Visit the Cai Be floating market to begin your tour, and then cruise among the neighborhood barges loaded with fresh produce. Visit a few neighborhood shops before indulging in a sumptuous lunch served in the shade of An Binh Island’s orchards. Take a traditional rowboat in the afternoon and travel further into the countryside, floating through constrained canals to take in the serene surroundings. Visit a nursery garden to learn how the delta’s farmers grow their renowned fruits and vegetables. Around 3:30 PM, the cruise arrives in Vinh Long. At the dock, your driver will meet you and drive you back to Saigon.

Day 04:Saigon – Da Nang – Hoi An

You are driven to the airport for your internal flight to Da Nang after breakfast. Your driver and guide will pick you up at the airport and drive you the short distance to Hoi An, a sleepy riverside town. Spend a half-day strolling the ancient quarter’s winding, winding streets and seeing the Chua Ong Pagoda, the Chinese Assembly Hall, the 200-year-old Tan Ky ancestral home, and the well-known Japanese Bridge. Take a relaxing boat ride at sunset to cap off the day.

Day 05:Hoi An – Da Nang – Hue

You are free in the morning.

Check out after lunch and travel to Hue via the 500-meter-high Hai Van pass. Before continuing on to Hue, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the former capital of Vietnam, enjoy a stop at the picturesque Lang Co Beach for a drink. Spend the rest of the day relaxing at your hotel or independently exploring the city.

Day 06:Hue City Tour – Fly to Hanoi

Take a day to explore the former, antiquated capital of Vietnam. Visit the Imperial Citadel, where the Imperial City and Forbidden Purple City—once the Emperor’s private residence—are located, first thing in the morning. The Forbidden City in Beijing served as the inspiration for the 19th-century construction of the Imperial City. Within its walls, the Imperial Enclosure is home to numerous palaces and temples. Continue your tour in the afternoon to see King Tu Duc’s mausoleum, Thien Mu Pagoda, and the bustling Dong Ba riverside market (a replica of the king’s palace built for the next reincarnation of the king). To take a quick flight to Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam, you must first travel to Phu Bai Airport. Receive transportation to your hotel in the heart of the city after arrival.

Day 07:Hanoi City Tour

You have the entire day today to discover the charming capital of Vietnam. Hanoi is an eclectic mix that has something to offer everyone with its broad, tree-lined boulevards, French colonial architecture, serene lakes, and historic oriental pagodas. The main attractions in Hanoi will be included in your city tour, including the Ho Chi Minh Complex, which includes the stilt house and mausoleum of Ho Chi Minh, the Presidential Palace, the nearby One Pillar Pagoda, the Temple of Literature, West Lake, which is home to the solemn Tran Quoc Pagoda and Quan Thanh Temple, and one of the city’s museums (a choice between the History Museum and the Ethnology Museum). Enjoy a traditional performance of water puppets later in the day. This distinctive folk art dates back to the Ly dynasty, which ruled over Vietnam 1,000 years ago. The daily activities of rural Vietnamese life are depicted in a water puppet show, along with significant historical moments and legendary tales. For water resistance and to add vibrant colors to the performance, each water puppet is hand-carved and covered in five layers of lacquer paint.

Day 08:Hanoi – Halong Bay – Overnight on cruise

Before beginning the three to four hour drive to the UNESCO World Heritage Site: Halong Bay, have breakfast at the hotel.

Spend 24 hours on a classic junk cruise through the breathtaking bay, a landscape of jutting limestone islands and glistening turquoise waters. Around noon, arrive at the dock, and board your junk. Enjoy a fine seafood lunch on board as you sail out into the mythical bay. Cruise around a few of Halong Bay’s numerous islands, such as Ga Choi and Dinh Huong, in the afternoon. Visit one of the three largest caves in the bay along the way (Thien Cung, Dau Go or Sung Sot). Take a break at an island cove with a protected white-sand beach to cool off in the warm Gulf of Tonkin waters (weather permitting). Pass the night on your junk while being soothed to sleep by the tranquil waters’ gentle rocking.

Day 09:Halong Bay – Hanoi – Departure

Get up early and practice Tai Chi on the top deck, or just unwind and take in the sunrise over the imposing islands of the bay. Before setting out on a rowboat tour of the nearby islands, enjoy a cup of coffee or tea in the morning. After brunch, head back to the junk and enjoy the sundeck as you cruise back to Halong City. There, your driver will be waiting to greet you at the dock and drive you to Noi Bai International Airport so you can catch your flight home.
