You have the entire day today to discover the charming capital of Vietnam. Hanoi is an eclectic mix that has something to offer everyone with its broad, tree-lined boulevards, French colonial architecture, serene lakes, and historic oriental pagodas. The main attractions in Hanoi are included in your city tour: the Ho Chi Minh Complex, which includes the stilt house and mausoleum of Ho Chi Minh; the nearby One Pillar Pagoda; the Presidential Palace; the Temple of Literature; the Quan Thanh Temple; the somber Tran Quoc Pagoda & West Lake; and one of the city’s museums (a choice between the History Museum and the Ethnology Museum). Enjoy a traditional Water Puppet Performance later in the day. This Vietnamese art form originated in Southeast Asia’s wet-rice culture.
Meals: Breakfast.

Your guide and driver will pick you up in the hotel lobby early in the morning, and you’ll travel for six hours on Vietnam’s longest and most modern highway to Sapa from Hanoi.
Upon arrival, take a leisurely stroll through Lao Chai and Ta Van village. This is a great way to learn about daily life and the cultures of the H’mong and Dzay people who live in the area. You can admire the magnificent rice terraces while hiking through Sapa Valley’s breathtaking scenery. Spend the night in Sapa Town.

Drive to Tram Ton Pass, Heaven’s Gate, this morning. It is the highest peak of roads in Vietnam (over 2000m). Visit the nearby Silver Waterfall and take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding nature as you take in the breathtaking views, including those of the Fansipan summit, the highest peak in the Indochina mountains (if the weather permits). Visit O Quy Ho village along the way; it is well-known for its many varieties of vegetables, flowers, fruit trees, and even medicinal plants. Eat lunch in Sapa before leaving this picturesque mountain town to return to Hanoi.

After breakfast, depart for the 3–4 hour drive to Halong Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Spend 24 hours on a classic junk cruise through the breathtaking bay, a landscape of jutting limestone islands and glistening turquoise waters. Around noon, arrive at the dock, and board your junk. Enjoy a fine seafood lunch on board as we set sail for the enchanted bay. Cruise around a few of Halong Bay’s numerous islands, such as Ga Choi and Dinh Huong, in the afternoon. Visit one of the three largest caves in the bay along the way (Thien Cung, Dau Go or Sung Sot). Take a break at an island cove with a safe white-sand beach to cool off in the Tonkin Gulf’s warm waters (weather permitting). Pass the night on your junk while being soothed to sleep by the tranquil waters’ gentle rocking.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.
Accommodation: on cruise.
Get up early and practice Tai Chi on the top deck, or just unwind and take in the sunrise over the imposing islands of the bay. Before setting out on a rowboat tour of nearby islands, enjoy a cup of coffee or tea in the morning. After breakfast, head back to the junk and use the sundeck to take in Bai Tu Long Bay’s amazing rock formations as you travel back to Halong City. Before sailing back to Halong pier, enjoy brunch on board. To catch your flight home, your driver will pick you up at the dock and drive you to Noi Bai Airport in Hanoi.
Optional (please contact our travel consultants for an arrangement in advance):
The largest aerial tramway in the world across Halong Bay has been completed by Swiss and Austrian engineers Doppelmayr and Garaventa. Two concrete towers, the larger of which is 188.88m high, support the 2,222m ropeway. The 230 passengers that each of the six sets of double-decker doors and cabins can accommodate makes them the largest ever constructed. Visitors can take the tramway from a terminal in Halong City’s Bai Chay District up to the amusement park on top of Ba Deo Hill (Hon Gai Ward, Halong City). The Nu Hoang Cable Car, which translates to “Queen” in English, has only been in operation since June 25, 2016, and the entrance fee for a round-trip is $15 per person (excluded). After the cruise, our driver can take you to the station of the Nu Hoang Cable Car, where you can spend a few hours if you’re interested in taking the gondola lift. You will then be taken straight to Hanoi’s Noi Bai Airport for your flight out.
