Arrive at Hanoi International Airport and be met by our guide for a transfer to your hotel. We can take an optional guided stroll through Hanoi’s bustling Old Quarter, depending on your flight. In the evening, dine on traditional Vietnamese fare at one of the city’s top restaurants. In Hanoi, spend the night.
Meals: Welcome Dinner.
Accommodation: Hotel in Hanoi.
We leave Hanoi early in the morning for the village of Mai Chau. An early lunch will be served at Poom Coong village before we hop on our bikes and cycle to the Thai village of Cun Pheo via a mixture of good single-track paths and undulating rough jeep trails. The scenery is breathtaking as we pass through villages, hot springs, suspension bridges, and rice paddies.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Accommodation: Homestay.
Our early morning journey takes us away from the river and through the mountain range that runs from Mai Chau to Cuc Phuong to Hoa Lu. Despite the fact that we have tarmac all the way, the riding can be challenging due to the undulating terrain. We board a bus in Ngoc Lac and transfer our tired legs to Nhu Xuan. In Nhu Xuan, spend the night in a local hotel.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Accommodation: Local Guest House.
Today’s ride will take place on the newly constructed two-lane Ho Chi Minh Highway. However, there is little traffic, and the road is smooth and fast. The birthplace of Uncle Ho at Kim Lien village is a must-see en route. We’ll most likely take a bus or a car from Kim Lien to Vinh City. (Please keep in mind that due to the total distance, some sections will be transferred by vehicle, depending on the strength of the group and cycling conditions).
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Hotel in Vinh.
The shuttle will take us back to Ho Chi Minh Highway after breakfast. We disembark at Pho Chau, where our biking adventure begins. Today’s roads wind through lush jungle and picturesque villages nestled in the shadow of the historic Truong Son Mountain range. We arrive in Huong Khe, a remote town in Nghe An province, at the end of the day.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Accommodation: Hotel in Huong Khe.
We continue riding on the Ho Chi Minh Trail after breakfast. The scenery is breathtaking from Huong Khe, and the road is peaceful. We ride for 80 kilometers before transferring to Phong Nha National Park. Spend the night in a typical National Park Guest House.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Accommodation: Hotel in Phong Nha.
Moderate After breakfast, we’ll take a boat to the spectacular Phong Nha cave and then walk through it. We usually spend a few hours exploring the cave before returning to the hotel. We get back on our bikes and ride to the small town of Dong Hoi.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Accommodation: Hotel in Dong Hoi.
We take a detour from the Ho Chi Minh Highway to visit the Vinh Moc Tunnels, a 2.8km labyrinth where Vietnamese hid from American troops during the Vietnam War. We begin cycling across the DMZ Vietnam again 30 kilometers from Dong Ha. The road is relatively flat and ideal for cruising! En route, we’ll see war relics before arriving in the Vietnam/Laos border town of Khe Sanh, site of some of the bloodiest battles.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Accommodation: Hotel un Khe Sanh.
After exploring the former marine base of Khe Sanh, we begin pedaling to the Dakrong Bridge and then turn off into the HCM Trail’s southern section. We start our ascent back into the mountains, following an unusually remote road to the tiny town of A Luoi. The path winds through dense forests and wild landscapes. A Luoi is home to many ethnic minorities as well as the infamous Hamburger Hill.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Accommodation: Hotel in A Luoi.
Moderate After breakfast, we say farewell to the HCM Trails and pedal 60 kilometers to Hue. Because the terrain is flat, the ride is relatively easy. The countryside is dotted with charming villages, jungles, and rivers. We finish our ride at the Bach Ho Bridge and board a bus to make the final transfer.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Accommodation: Hotel in Hue.
Today, cycle along the beautiful coastal roads and up the Hai Van Pass on the way to Hoi An, passing by Lang Co beach. The heart of Hoi An has remained largely unchanged since its heyday. We take a walking tour to see the town’s prosperous merchants’ wooden-fronted houses, the Japanese-covered Bridge, and the wonderful market. Cua Dai Beach is five kilometers from town and is popular with both locals and visitors for its warm sea and beachfront seafood restaurants.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Accommodation: Hotel in Hue.
Take a half-day walking tour through the ancient quarter’s narrow winding streets, stopping at Chua Ong Pagoda, the Chinese Assembly Hall, the 200-year-old Tam Ky ancestral house, and the famous Japanese Bridge. Spend the rest of the day relaxing or shopping on your own.
Meals: Breakfast.

Spend a relaxing morning at your leisure before driving to Da Nang for the departure flight or other optional tour with Travel Vietnam.
