Detailed Itinerary:

Here is how the four days unfold, from a bicycle ride through Hanoi’s Old Quarter to a morning climb above the bay on Soi Sim Island. Every part of it can be adjusted: add a night where you want to linger, swap an activity or change your hotel class, and we will shape the plan around you.

Day 01:Hanoi Arrival

Welcome to Hanoi, a capital of tree-shaded lakes, French colonial boulevards and a thousand years of history.

Arrival

Your driver and guide meet you in the baggage hall at Noi Bai Airport and drive you into the city to check in at the Sofitel Legend Metropole, the elegant French colonial hotel that has stood in the centre of Hanoi for more than a century.

Afternoon

Explore the Old Quarter by bicycle, pedalling through winding lanes lined with shophouses and colonial facades, where every street seems to have its own trade.

Evening

End your first day with a fine-dining dinner at one of Hanoi’s best restaurants.

Meals: Dinner. Accommodation: Hotel in Hanoi.

Day 02:Hanoi City Tour

A full day to see Hanoi, a capital of tree-lined boulevards, French colonial buildings, quiet lakes and centuries-old pagodas, at a pace that suits you.

Morning

Begin at the Ho Chi Minh Complex, where the granite Mausoleum stands beside the modest stilt house in which the country’s founding father lived and worked. Nearby, the One Pillar Pagoda rises from its pond like a lotus flower, and the yellow Presidential Palace shows the French side of the city. Continue to the Temple of Literature, dedicated to Confucius and later home to Vietnam’s first university.

Afternoon

Head to West Lake for the peaceful Tran Quoc Pagoda, set on a small island joined to the shore, and the Quan Thanh Temple nearby. Then choose one of the city’s museums: the History Museum for the story of Vietnam through the ages, or the Museum of Ethnology for the traditions of its many ethnic groups.

Evening

Watch a water puppet show, a folk art born in the flooded rice paddies of the north, where wooden puppets glide across a stage of water to tell stories of village life and legend.

Good to know: the Museum of Ethnology is closed on Mondays.

Meals: Breakfast. Accommodation: Hotel in Hanoi.

Day 03:Hanoi – Halong Bay – Overnight on the Halong Violet

A night aboard the Halong Violet, a boutique junk decorated in 1930s Indochine style, among the limestone islands of Halong Bay.

Morning

After breakfast, your driver collects you for the drive of about four hours through the countryside of the Red River Delta to the coast.

Midday

A tender carries you out to the boat for a welcome drink and a briefing. The Violet has just six individually themed cabins, each with a marble bathroom, jacuzzi and private balcony, as well as a library, lounge, spa and gym. Lunch is served as the cruise begins, and the spa is open throughout your stay.

Afternoon

Arrive at the Cua Van floating fishing village and take the tender to Tien Ong Cave, whose wide, low entrance is said to look like a frog’s mouth. Archaeologists have found human remains and tools here dating back about 10,000 years. Then explore the village itself, either in a small bamboo boat rowed by local people or by kayak under your own steam.

Evening

Sail on to Luon Bo, where the boat anchors for the night. Before dinner, the chef demonstrates how to prepare a Vietnamese dish in the dining room, with your onboard guide explaining each step.

Good to know: spa treatments are booked on board and paid separately. The kayaking option may carry a small extra charge.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. Accommodation: Overnight on the cruise.

Day 04:Halong Bay – Hanoi – Departure

A last morning on the bay, with tai chi, an island climb and a slow cruise back to shore.

Early morning

Wake to coffee, tea and pastries in the dining room, then join a short tai chi session on the sundeck as the boat makes its way to Soi Sim Island.

Morning

Take the tender to the island, where you can swim from the beach or climb about 400 stone steps to the summit for sweeping views over the bay. Back on board, pack up and relax as the boat heads for Tuan Chau Marina, with a full breakfast served on the way.

Departure

Disembark in the late morning and drive to Noi Bai International Airport for your flight home.
