Detailed Itinerary:

You start in Beijing, take the high-speed train to Xi’an and fly up to Lhasa for three nights, before flying on to Chengdu and Shanghai. Your own guide and driver look after you in every city. Every part of it can be adjusted: add a night, swap a visit or change the hotel class, and we will shape the plan around you.

Day 01:Arrival In Beijing

Land in the capital and settle in at your own pace.

Arrival

Your private guide meets you as your flight lands in Beijing and your driver takes you to your hotel, with a short briefing on the days ahead.

At leisure

The rest of the day is at leisure. Rest after the journey, or take a gentle walk and find a local restaurant for your first taste of northern Chinese cooking.

Accommodation: Hotel in Beijing.

Day 02:Forbidden City, Jingshan Park And The Hutongs

Imperial Beijing from the inside, from above and from its old lanes.

Morning

Start at Tiananmen Square, the great public square at the centre of the capital, and walk through its gates into the Forbidden City. For nearly five centuries this was the palace of the Ming and Qing emperors, and today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site of vast halls, marble terraces and golden roofs.

Midday

Climb the small hill of Jingshan Park, just north of the palace, for the classic view back over the Forbidden City’s sea of yellow roofs. Lunch is at a local restaurant.

Afternoon

Ride by rickshaw into the hutongs, the old alleyway neighbourhoods of grey brick courtyard homes, where neighbours chat on doorsteps and small shops spill into the lanes.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch. Accommodation: Hotel in Beijing.

Day 03:Mutianyu Great Wall And The Sacred Road

Walk the Great Wall among forested hills and the avenue to the Ming Tombs.

Morning

Drive out to Mutianyu, a restored section of the Great Wall set along wooded ridges and usually quieter than the busiest sections. Walk between the watchtowers at your own pace, with the wall snaking away across the hills in both directions. The walk includes plenty of steps, so take it at whatever pace suits you.

Midday

Lunch is at a local restaurant near the wall.

Afternoon

Walk the Sacred Road of the Ming Tombs, the ceremonial avenue lined with stone officials and animals, from elephants and camels to mythical beasts, that led to the burial grounds of the Ming emperors.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch. Accommodation: Hotel in Beijing.
