Detailed Itinerary:

The trip starts and ends in Beijing, with your own guide and driver throughout. Each day includes a hike on a different stretch of the wall, from rugged and unrestored to well kept, with one night camping and one in Gubei Water Town. Every part of it can be adjusted: add a night, swap a visit or change the hotel class, and we will shape the plan around you.

Day 01:Beijing - Jiankou Great Wall Camp

Leave the city for the wild Jiankou section of the Great Wall and spend the night camping on the wall itself.

Morning

Your private guide and driver collect you from your hotel in downtown Beijing for the drive of about two hours into the mountains north of the city. The traffic thins, the hills steepen and the first watchtowers appear on the ridges.

Afternoon

Begin your hike on the Jiankou section, one of the most photographed and least restored stretches of the Ming dynasty Great Wall. The path is uneven and steep in places, with crumbling steps and wild growth between the stones, so take it slowly. Climb towards Zhengbeilou, a large watchtower on a high point of the ridge, with views of the wall twisting along the mountains in both directions.

Evening

Set up camp on the wall as the sun goes down. Your team prepares a barbecue supper, and once darkness falls the stars come out above the silent ridges, far from the lights of the city.

Good to know: This is a demanding hike on unrestored wall. Good hiking boots, a head torch and warm layers are essential, and the route depends on weather on the day.

Meals: Dinner. Accommodation: Hotel in Jiankou (Beijing).

Day 02:Sunrise On The Wall - Jiankou To Mutianyu

Wake to sunrise over the Great Wall, then hike from the wild Jiankou section to the restored wall at Mutianyu.

Early morning

Rise early to watch the sun come up over the mountains, the wall catching the first light as it runs along the ridges. Breakfast is served at camp before you pack up.

Morning

Hike along the wall from Jiankou towards Mutianyu. The path moves from rough, overgrown stone to the carefully restored section at Mutianyu, with watchtowers at close intervals and pine and chestnut forest covering the slopes below.

Midday

Stop for lunch at a local restaurant near Mutianyu, a welcome rest after the morning’s walk.

Afternoon

Your driver takes you back to Beijing for an evening at leisure at your hotel.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch. Accommodation: Hotel in Beijing.

Day 03:Gubeikou Great Wall And Gubei Water Town

Hike the old Gubeikou section, then spend the evening in Gubei Water Town beneath the lit walls of Simatai.

Morning

Your driver collects you for the drive of about two and a half hours to Gubeikou, a historic mountain pass northeast of Beijing. Walk the Gubeikou section of the wall, largely unrestored and quiet, with weathered watchtowers and views over the valley that once guarded the route north.

Midday

Lunch is at a local restaurant near the wall.

Late afternoon

Continue to Gubei Water Town, a resort town built in northern Chinese style with canals, stone bridges and courtyard houses at the foot of the Simatai Great Wall. Check in to your hotel in Gubei Water Town.

Evening

Take an evening walk up to the Simatai Great Wall, or ride the cable car, to see the wall lit up against the night sky, one of the few sections of the wall open after dark.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch. Accommodation: Hotel in Gubei Water Town (Beijing).

Day 04:Jinshanling To Simatai - Beijing

A final morning in Gubei Water Town and a hike from Jinshanling to the western end of Simatai.

Morning

Wander through Gubei Water Town while it is still quiet, before the day visitors arrive. Then head to Jinshanling, a scenic section of the Ming dynasty Great Wall with towers close together and distinctive features such as carved brick and arrow slits.

Midday

Hike from Jinshanling towards West Simatai, following the wall as it climbs and dips along the ridgeline. The views are wide and the crowds thin, making this one of the most rewarding walks on the wall.

Afternoon

Your driver takes you back to Beijing, where your journey ends at your hotel or onward point of travel.

Meals: Breakfast.
