Detailed Itinerary:

This short trek packs a lot into two days: waterfall, jungle, a hill-tribe homestay and a river journey back towards the city. Your guide cooks fresh Thai meals along the way and sets the walking to suit your group, with a softer route for families with younger children. Every part of it can be adjusted: add a night, swap a visit or change the route, and we will shape the plan around you.

Day 01:Chiang Mai - Lahu Village Trek

From the city to the hills, with a waterfall swim and a jungle trek to a Lahu village for the night.

Morning

Your guide collects you from your hotel in Chiang Mai and drives you out to a local market, where you pick up provisions for the trek. The road then climbs steeply into the hills to Mok Fa Waterfall, a relaxing spot where you can swim in the cool pool and take in the views.

Midday

A short drive brings you to a small roadside restaurant for lunch and a rest. Your team does the cooking, so this is your first taste of authentic Thai food made fresh for you.

Afternoon

Drive on to the start of the trail and step into dense jungle behind your guide. Choose the softer route, with less hiking and well suited to families with smaller children, or the harder route for a more serious walk. After about two and a half hours you reach a village of the Lahu hill tribe, at around 1,200 metres above sea level.

Evening

Settle into a simple wooden hut at the edge of the village, take a shower and wander the lanes before dark as the mountains glow around you. On a clear evening you can see the summit of Doi Chiang Dao, Thailand’s third highest mountain. Dinner is prepared for you, and afterwards you can sit on the deck by the creek with a soft drink or a beer, listening to the jungle at night.

Good to know: Tell us in advance whether you prefer the softer or the harder trekking route. The hut is basic, so bring a light layer for the cooler mountain night.

Meals: Lunch, Dinner. Accommodation: Homestay in a Lahu village.

Day 02:Lahu Village - Bamboo Rafting - Chiang Mai

A morning in the village, a bamboo raft down the Mae Taeng River and an afternoon with elephants before the drive home.

Morning

After breakfast, take time to explore the small Lahu village and see something of the simple daily life of the hill tribes while your team prepares the bamboo raft. A little more hiking leads to the river. Bags ride on a rack in the middle of the raft, safely clear of the water.

Late morning

Float down the Mae Taeng River for about two hours, depending on the season, with green forest rising on both banks. If you like, take a turn at steering the raft through the water.

Midday

Arrive at a Shan village to freshen up and have lunch. Time permitting, wander through the village and across a long wooden hanging bridge for a last look at the rainforest.

Afternoon

A short drive brings you to an elephant camp, where you can feed the elephants and walk among them. Then leave the forest behind for the drive of about an hour and a half back to Chiang Mai, arriving in the late afternoon.

Good to know: Rafting times vary with the river level, which is higher in the rainy season. Pack a dry bag for phones and cameras.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch.
