A big, busy beach city on a wide bay, with islands to explore, ancient Cham towers and some of the best seafood on the coast. Here is what to expect and how to make the most of it.
Nha Trang curves around a wide bay on the south-central coast, with a long city beach, a skyline of hotels and a scattering of green islands offshore. It has been a seaside escape for generations, and today it is one of Vietnam's biggest resort cities, popular with Vietnamese families and with visitors from across Asia and beyond.
Be clear about what it is: a lively, built-up city rather than a quiet beach village. If you want calm, stay at the resorts on the long beaches to the south or in the secluded bays to the north. If you like a buzz, good seafood and easy boat trips, the city centre works well. Beyond the beach, the Po Nagar Cham towers, Long Son Pagoda and the mud baths make good half days, and Dalat is a scenic drive up into the hills.
Every journey below is private and tailor-made, so you can mix beach days in Nha Trang with Dalat's cool hills and the rest of the coast.

The experiences our travellers enjoy most, in order of what we would not miss.
The long city beach with a palm-lined promenade, sunbeds and calm morning water. Locals swim at dawn; the afternoon wind can bring waves.
Take a boat out to the bay's islands for swimming, snorkelling and lunch on the water. A private boat avoids the crowded party tours.
A marine protected area with the best snorkelling near the city. The reefs have suffered over the years, so expect pleasant rather than world-class.
Brick towers built by the Cham over many centuries and dedicated to the goddess Po Nagar, still a place of worship today. Dress modestly.
A large white Buddha sits on the hill above the pagoda, with views over the city. Climb the steps early, before the heat.
Granite boulders tumbling into the sea just north of the centre, with views back over the bay. A short visit is enough.
Soak in mineral mud and warm pools just outside the city, a favourite with families. Fun, though some places feel crowded and dated.
Fish, squid, prawns and shellfish grilled to order in local restaurants. Ask your guide where locals are eating that night.

Large resorts on the quiet beaches south of the city, near the airport and around 30 to 45 minutes from the centre.
A handful of resorts sit in secluded bays and on islands around Nha Trang, some reached only by boat. Very private, but you will stay put.

January to August is the best time, with sunny, dry weather and mostly calm seas, and February to May is especially pleasant. Unlike much of southern Vietnam, Nha Trang's rainy season comes late in the year, from about October to December, with rough seas, heavy rain and occasional storms.

Ask us on WhatsAppIt is worth it if you want a lively beach city with island trips and good seafood. If you are looking for a quiet, unspoilt beach, it may disappoint; consider a resort south of the city or a smaller beach destination instead.
Two or three nights is enough for a boat trip in the bay, the Po Nagar towers, a mud bath and some beach time. Add more if you are staying at a resort to relax.

Yes. The city beach is long and sandy, the mud baths and boat trips are popular with children, and the resorts south of the city have pools and space. Swim where lifeguards are on duty, as waves can build in the afternoon.
The drive takes about 3.5 to 4 hours on a mountain road with fine views as you climb into the highlands. A private car lets you stop at viewpoints and waterfalls along the way.
Stay on the city beachfront for restaurants and convenience, at the resorts on Bai Dai and Cam Ranh for quiet beaches near the airport, or in a secluded bay for privacy. Your travel consultant will match the area to your style.
