A calm, curving bay famous for seafood grilled on the beach at sunset, minutes from the airport. Here is how to enjoy it and who it suits.
Jimbaran is a fishing village on a wide bay just south of the airport, at the neck of the Bukit Peninsula. Colourful fishing boats still pull up on the sand, and each evening tables are set out along the beach for one of Bali's best-known experiences: choosing your seafood, having it grilled over coconut husks, and eating with your feet in the sand as the sun sets.
The bay is more sheltered than the west coast, so the water is calmer for swimming, and the beach is long and good for walking. There is less to see here than in Uluwatu or Ubud, but its location makes it a convenient first or last night, and a natural dinner stop from anywhere in the south.
Our Jimbaran journeys are private and tailor-made, often with a relaxed first or last night here and the rest of Bali in between.

Choose fish, prawns and clams, then eat at a beach table as the sun goes down. Arrive before sunset for a front-row seat.
The morning market at the north end of the bay, where the night's catch is landed and sold. Lively, smelly and very real.
The long curve of sand is calm enough for swimming at most times and perfect for an early walk past the fishing boats.
Jimbaran is a good base for day trips to Uluwatu Temple and the beaches south of the bay, about 30 minutes away.

April to October brings dry, sunny days and the clearest sunsets for beach dinners. In the wet season, roughly November to March, evening rain can move dinners indoors, but the bay is still pleasant between showers.

Usually, yes. The bay is calmer than the west coast, though waves can pick up at times. Check the conditions and follow any flags on the beach.
You choose your seafood from a display, it is weighed and priced, then grilled and served at a table on the sand with rice, vegetables and sambal. Always confirm the weight and price before cooking.
